Gin Rummy

Play Gin Rummy online, two players

Gin Rummy is the two-player rummy game: ten cards, draw and discard, knock when deadwood is 10 or less. This table is head-to-head only. Ace is low in runs (A-2-3, not Q-K-A).

Free, no ads, no download. Two seats: a friend on another device, or the computer.

How two people play

  1. Open a table. Tap “Play a friend”. You get a five-letter code.
  2. Send the code. The other person types it at Two Player Cards, on their own phone or computer.
  3. Play. Each of you only sees what you should. The deck stays on the server.

House rules at this table

The deal

Ten each from a standard pack. The next card is turned as the upcard. The non-dealer may take it; if they pass, the dealer may take it; if both pass, the non-dealer draws from the stock. Sets are three or four of a rank. Runs are three or more in suit, ace low only.

A turn

Draw the top of the stock or take the discard, then throw one card away. After drawing, if the ten cards you would keep have 10 deadwood or less, tap Knock. If those ten cards are all melded, that is Gin. When two cards remain in the stock, you may only take the discard. If you do not, the hand is a draw and nobody scores.

Scoring

The other player lays off leftover cards onto the knocker’s melds (not after gin). If you knocked and they still have more deadwood, you score the difference. If they have equal or fewer (an undercut), they score the difference plus 25. Gin scores 25 plus the other player’s full deadwood. First to 100 wins the match. Deadwood: ace 1, number cards face value, face cards 10.

Questions

When can I knock?

After you draw, if the ten cards you would keep have 10 deadwood or less. Gold-rimmed cards are safe to throw. All melded is gin.

Can I throw back a card I just took from the discard?

No. You may not throw back the card you just took from the discard.

What is an undercut?

If you knock and the other player has equal or fewer deadwood after laying off, they score the difference plus 25.

What wins the match?

First to 100. Gin scores 25 plus the other player’s full deadwood. Laying off is not allowed after gin.
